Taxonomy
Palaeopeltis was named by Ameghino (1895). It is not extant. Its type is Palaeopeltis inornatus.

It was assigned to Glyptodontidae by Simpson (1948), Chaffee (1952); and to Palaeopeltidae by Ameghino (1897), Castellanos (1959), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Perea et al. (2014).
