Taxonomy
Urotherium was named by Castellanos (1926). It is not extant. Its type is Urotherium simplex.

It was assigned to Plohophorinae by Castellanos (1931); to Glyptodontidae by Carroll (1988); to Lomaphorini by Hoffstetter (1958), McKenna and Bell (1997), Fernicola (2008); and to Neuryurini by Scillato-Yané et al. (2013).
