Hadrosauridae was named by Nopcsa (1901).

It was assigned to Ornithopodidae by Nopcsa (1901).

Ornithotarsus immanis

Synonyms

Ornithotarsus immanis was named by Cope (1869). Its type specimen is YPM 3221, a set of limb elements (distal tibia, distal fibula and fused astragalus and calcaneum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Southern shoreline of Raritan Bay, which is in a Campanian marine claystone/marl in the Merchantville Formation of New Jersey. It is the type species of Ornithotarsus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hadrosaurus foulkii by Baird and Horner (1977), Weishampel and Horner (1990), Horner et al. (2004), Weishampel (2006); it was considered a nomen dubium by Prieto-Márquez et al. (2006), Brownstein (2021).
