Taxonomy
Abelmoschomys simpsoni was named by Baskin (1986) [genotype]. Its type locality is Love Bone Bed, which is in a Clarendonian marginal marine horizon in the Alachua Formation of Florida. It is the type species of Abelmoschomys.
