Taxonomy
Stenotheca taconica was named by Landing and Bartowski (1996). Its type specimen is NYSM 15529, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is E-Bar-4.0 - Keeler's Eskimo Bar ice cream stand, which is in a Dyeran slope siltstone in the Browns Pond Formation of New York.

It was recombined as Aequiconus taconica by Parkhaev (2001); it was recombined as Mackinnonia taconica by Skovsted (2004), Skovsted and Peel (2007); it was recombined as Mackinnonia taconia by Wotte (2006); it was recombined as Davidonia taconica by Claybourn et al. (2019), Peel (2021), Wagner (2023).

Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
E. Landing and K.E. Bartowski 1996Stenotheca species with small, rapidly expanding conch with broadly rounded, suberect apex; gently convex posterior margin; gently concave to straight or, rarely, weakly convex anterior margin below apex; broad, transverse rugae separated by deep, narrow furrows on steinkern; and laterally compressed, elliptical cross-section.
C. B. Skovsted and J. S. Peel 2007Straight to slightly coiled and laterally compressed helcionelloid molluscs with smooth outer shell surface combined with prominent internal rugae, are assigned to the genus Mackinnonia Runnegar, 1990. Most specimens of Mackinnonia from the Forteau Formation of Newfoundland have a sub-centrally placed apex and represent Mackinnonia taconica (Landing and Bartowski, 1996), also known from the Browns Pond Formation of New York State (Landing and Bartowski 1996), the “Anse Maranda Formation” of Québec (Landing et al. 2002) and the Bastion Formation of North-East Greenland (Skovsted 2004). Internal moulds of a similar morphology were reported from the Forteau Formation of Labrador as Pollicina sp. (Spencer 1980).
