Palaeomyrmidon incomptus was named by Rovereto (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Maria Valley Andalhuala Fm, which is in a Montehermosan/Chapadmalalan terrestrial horizon in the Andalhuala Formation of Argentina.
