Akatopora kaufmanni was named by Brezina et al. (2021). Its type specimen is NHMUK D32352a and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is General Roca (W. Kaufmann collection), which is in a Danian carbonate limestone in the Roca Formation of Argentina.
