Taxonomy
Spiroscala elegans was named by Mazaev (2019). Its type specimen is PIN 5538/7-187, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shakhtau open pit, sample 7, which is in an Asselian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Shakhtau Reef Formation of the Russian Federation.
