Banos-Rodriguez et al. 2020 | Heckelichthysspecies with the ventral arm of the pre-opercle three times longer than the dorsal arm, and with a long posteroventral portion, extending to the level of the posterior edge of the opercle; dorsal arm of the preopercle short and narrow from itsbase. Additional characters include a combination of a poorlydeveloped supraoccipital crest, straight dorsal edge of the frontals,articulation of the mandible anterior to the orbit, two supramaxillae,the posterior one with a long and thin anteroventral processextending under the anterior supramaxilla, many canaliculi in the infraorbital canal, anterior process of the pelvic bone broad, and parapophyses sutured with their centra. |
