Taxonomy
Aspidopleurus cataphractus was named by Pictet and Humbert (1866). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Hakel (Humbert collection), which is in a Cenomanian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal carbonate in Lebanon.
It was recombined as Prionolepis cataphractus by Goody (1969).
