Taxonomy
Asaphus taningensis was named by Weller (1907).

It was recombined as Megalaspides taningensis by Turvey (2005); it was synonymized subjectively with Liomegalaspides blackwelderi by Turvey (2007); it was recombined as Liomegalaspides taningensis by Zhou and Zhou (2019).
