Taxonomy
Astacus sussexiensis was named by Mantell (1824). It is not extant. It is the type species of Palaeastacus.

It was recombined as Enoploclytia sussexiensis by van Straelen (1936); it was recombined as Palaeastacus sussexiensis by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2015), Devillez et al. (2016) and Ossó et al. (2024).
