Anchitherium clarencei

Taxonomy
Anchitherium clarencei was named by Simpson (1932). Its type specimen is FSGS V5074, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Midway, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the Torreya Formation of Florida.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anchitherium navasotae by Forsten (1975); it was recombined as Kalobatippus clarencei by MacFadden (1998).

G. G. Simpson 1932An anchitheriine horse about the size of A. agatense. Upper molars subquadrate, little transverse. M3 reduced, M3 not fully triangular. Proto-and metalophs strongly crested, sinuous. Molar hypostyles triangular, cingular, pitted, united by crest to hypocone. Faint vestigial external ribs on upper molars. No internal cingula.
