Apheliscus wapitiensis
Taxonomy
Parapheliscus wapitiensis was named by Van Valen (1967) [genotype]. Its type specimen is AMNH 16935, a set of teeth (Right P3-M1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South Elk Creek (Diatryma steini type locality), which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Parapheliscus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Apheliscus nitidus by Delson (1971) and Bown (1979); it was recombined as Apheliscus wapitiensis by Rose (1981).
