Taxonomy
Mactra modesta was named by Dall (1894). It is extant.

It was recombined as Mactra (Mulinia) pallida modesta by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Mulinia pallida modesta by Kanakoff and Emerson (1959); it was recombined as Mulinia modesta by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012), Hendy (2021).
