Bradocryphaeus vanherlei was named by Van Viersen and Bignon (2011) [= v e.p. 1926 Asteropyge (Asteropyge) supradevonica (Frech); Richter & Richter, pp. 215-218, pl. 12, figs. 30, 31.

= 2007 Bradocryphaeus cf. supradevonicus (Frech); van Viersen & Prescher, p. 158.]. Its type specimen is NHMM 2010023, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loc018. The edge of "les Abannets", Nismes, which is in a Frasnian/Frasnian marine limestone/shale in the Moulin Liénaux Formation of Belgium.
