Odontopleura buchii was named by Barrande (1846).

It was recombined as Selenopeltis buchii by Hawle and Corda (1847); it was recombined as Acidaspis buchii by Barrande (1852); it was recombined as Acidaspis buchi by Kloucek (1919); it was recombined as Selenopeltis buchi by Bruton (2008).
