Calymene pulchra was named by Beyrich (1846).

It was recombined as Pharostoma pulchra by Hawle and Corda (1847), Siveter (1977); it was recombined as Pharostoma pulchrum by Whittard (1959), Havlicek and Vanek (1966); it was recombined as Prionocheilus pulchra by Jell and Adrain (2002); it was recombined as Prionocheilus pulcher by Rabano et al. (2010).
