Taxonomy
Acidaspis trentonensis was named by Hall (1847). Its type specimen is AMNH 853/2 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Leonaspis trentonensis by Whittington (1941); it was recombined as Primaspis trentonensis by Ross (1979); it was recombined as Meadowtownella trentonensis by Brett et al. (1999).
