Taxonomy
Brontops validus was named by Marsh (1891).

It was recombined as Titanotherium validum by Osborn and Wortman (1895); it was synonymized subjectively with Megacerops dispar by Osborn (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Menodus dispar by Clark and Beerbower (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Brontops dispar by Osborn (1929), Mader (1989), Mader (1998).
