Muldaster was named by Thuy et al. (2022) [Holotype: Natural History Museum Luxembourg (MnhnL) OPH087, a lateral arm plate.]. It is not extant. Its type is Muldaster haakei.

It was assigned to Ophiuroidea by Thuy et al. (2022).
