Dikelocephalus magnificus was named by Billings (1860). Its type specimen is Nat. Mus. Canada 848b and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Apatokephalus magnificus by Broegger (1897); it was recombined as Hungaia magnifica by Walcott (1914).
