Systemodon semihians was named by Cope (1882).

It was recombined as Homogalax semihians by Hay (1899), Hay (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Radinsky (1963); it was recombined as Cardiolophus semihians by Gingerich (1991), Gunnell et al. (1992), Colbert and Schoch (1998).
