Subtiliolithus hyogoensis
Taxonomy
Subtiliolithus hyogoensis was named by Tanaka et al. (2020). Its type specimen is MNHAH D1-040096, an egg, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kamitaki Bonebed Quarry, Tamba City, which is in an Albian floodplain mudstone in the Ohyamashimo Formation of Japan.

Tanaka et al. 2020 | Subtiliolithus hyogoensis differs from all other ootaxa in the following unique combination of traits: outer surface ornamentation consists of packed, isolated or coalesced nodes; eggshell consisting of a mammillary layer and a continuous layer delimited by a gradual boundary; mammillary layer-to-continuous layer thickness ratio of 1:0.9–1:1.3; tightly packed mammillae (mean 80 mm in diameter); blocky crystals with tabular ultrastructure in the mammillary layer. |
