Taxonomy
Chiromyoides major was named by Gingerich (1975). Its type specimen is PU 21150, a tooth (crown of a left upper central incisor), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Paint Creek, which is in a Clarkforkian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.
