Taxonomy
Walchia diffusus was named by Emmons (1856). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Ellington's, Rhynie Wicker's property, which is in a Triassic terrestrial shale/bituminous coal in North Carolina.
It was recombined as Palissya diffusa by Fontaine (1883), Knowlton (1919).
