Cannobotrys was named by Haeckel (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Cannobotryidae.
It was assigned to Cannobotryidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
