Taxonomy
Pinus prekesiya was named by Xing et al. (2010). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Kunming Institute of Botany, HLT 001A, B, a seed/fruit. Its type locality is Xianfeng Coal Mine, Kunming, which is in a Miocene fluvial horizon in the Xiaolongtan Formation of China.
