Taxonomy
Archipilium was named by Haeckel (1887) [1b. Tribe: Archipilida. Open, triradiate monocyrtids. A. Bordered Archipilida (= Trissopilida). (Archipilida with the apertural margins smooth or truncate). AI. Obtuse (cephalis'smooth, not spiny). Ia. Three lateral spines, simple. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1887).

It was assigned to Lophophaenidae by Haeckel (1887).
