Agnostus brighamensis was named by Resser (1939). Its type specimen is USNM 96500 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Peronopsis brighamensis by Robison (1978); it was recombined as Pentagnostus brighamensis by Naimark (2012), Sundberg (2018).
