Taxonomy
Pecopteris macrocarpa was named by Oldham and Morris (1863). It is not extant. Its type locality is Bindraban, which is in a Jurassic fluvial horizon in India.

It was recombined as Asplenites macrocarpa by Feistmantel (1876); it was recombined as Marattiopsis macrocarpa by Seward and Sahni (1920), Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Chandra and Tewari (1991).
