Miochinchilla surirense

Taxonomy
Miochinchilla surirense was named by Croft et al. (2021). Its type specimen is SGOPV 4118, a partial skull (partial cranium preserving full maxillary dentition, disarticulated mandible in two pieces preserving full dentition except R incisor and Lm3, and associated bo), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chucal, which is in a Santacrucian floodplain sandstone in the Chucal Formation of Chile. It is the type species of Miochinchilla.

(described below) in having: a persistent transverse crest in each lamina, located distally and mesially in upper and lower teeth, respectively; more quadrangular molars (i.e., relatively longer mesiodistally than buccolingually), especially evident in m3; and molars that are wider mesio- distally and narrower in laminar diameter.
