Otozamites rarinervis was named by Feistmantel (1879). It is not extant. Its type locality is Ommevaram, which is in a Jurassic fluvial horizon in India.
It was recombined as Ptilophyllum rarinervis by Bose and Kasat (1972) and Chandra and Tewari (1991).
