Palaeocomaster messingi was named by Hess (2012). Its type specimen is M10840, a calyx (Cup with centrodorsal), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Pouza farmhouse, which is in a Bathonian slope/ramp reef marl/limestone in France.
