Dinohyus hollandi

Taxonomy
Dinochoerus hollandi was named by Peterson (1905) [genotype; Science, not in collection]. Its type specimen is CMNH 1594, a skeleton (complete skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Agate Springs Quarries, which is in a Harrisonian channel sandstone in the Marsland Formation of Nebraska.

It was recombined as Daeodon hollandi by Lucas et al. (1997); it was synonymized subjectively with Daeodon shoshonensis by Lucas et al. (1998); it was recombined as Dinohyus hollandi by Peterson (1905), Brunet (1975), Tedford et al. (1987), Albright (1991), Coombs and Coombs (1997), Effinger (1998), Albright (1999).

Synonyms
  • Daeodon minor was named by Loomis (1932) [the type specimen is technically a pair of lower jaws, but all parts of the skeleton were associated and "there can be no doubt that they all belong together"]. Its type specimen is Amherst College Museum 31-22, a partial skeleton (pair of lower jaws, upper teeth, skull fragment, and most postcrania), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stenomylus Quarry, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of Nebraska.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Daeodon shoshonensis by Lucas et al. (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Dinohyus hollandi by Albright (1999).
