Taxonomy
Callianassa elongata was named by Fritsch (1867). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cava Rossi di Monte di Malo (Morozovella lehneri zone), which is in a Lutetian carbonate limestone in Italy.

It was recombined as Protocallianassa elongata by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
