Porcellana thomasi was named by De Angeli and Ceccon (2017). Its type specimen is MCV.16/75-I.G.371318, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Magrè, which is in a Ypresian carbonate packstone in Italy.
