Filichnites oncalensis was named by Moratalla (2015) [Named by J. J. Moratalla in a 1993 thesis, first officially appeared in this publication. Therefore Filichnites oncalensis Moratalla in Pérez-Lorente 2015.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Virgen del Prado tracksite, which is in a Berriasian lacustrine limestone in the Inestrillas Formation of Spain. It is the type species of Filichnites.
