Sphaerodromiinae was named by Guinot and Tavares (2003). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Sphaerodromiidae by Schweitzer et al. (2012), Beschin et al. (2012) and Schweitzer and Feldmann (2024).

It was assigned to Dromiidae by Ng et al. (2009), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Artal et al. (2022); and to Dromioidea by Schweitzer et al. (2012), Beschin et al. (2012) and Schweitzer and Feldmann (2024).
