Leidymys vetus was named by Wood (1937).
It was synonymized subjectively with Eumys exiguus by Galbreath (1953); it was synonymized subjectively with Scottimus exiguus by Black (1961); it was synonymized subjectively with Paracricetodon exiguus by Alker (1968); it was recombined as Eoeumys vetus by Martin (1980), Korth (1981) and Korth (1994).
