Taxonomy
Gerastos taqus was named by Gibb and Chatterton (2010). Its type specimen is UA 13292 (complete exoskeleton) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Thysanopeltis horizon, Mrakib, which is in an Eifelian carbonate limestone in the Taboumakhlouf Formation of Morocco.
