Lanxangichthys alticephalus
Taxonomy
Lanxangichthys alticephalus was named by Cavin et al. (2019). Its type specimen is MDS BLT97-08, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ban Lam Thoy, which is in an Aptian/Albian terrestrial horizon in the Grès supérieurs Formation of Laos. It is the type species of Lanxangichthys.

Cavin et al. 2019 | Lepisosteiform ginglymodian differing from all other members of the family by the following combination of characters: short and deep head; frontal elongated and as wide anteriorly as posteriorly; dermopterotic tapering anteriorly and more elongated than the parietal; first anterior infraorbital bone very deep and narrow; second anterior infraorbital large and squarish, with the anteroventral corner excavated to fit with the small, squarish anterior third infraorbital; suborbitals arranged in a mosaic pattern; preopercle with a long and broad vertical limb with parallel margins. |
