Taxonomy
Apeomys whistleri was named by Korth and Samuels (2015). Its type specimen is JODA 12662 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lonerock Area, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial sandstone in the John Day Formation of Oregon.
