Taxonomy
Proheteromys latidens was named by Korth and Samuels (2015). Its type specimen is UCMP 150688, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rudio Creek 4, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial siltstone in the John Day Formation of Oregon.
