Acidaspis obsoleta was named by Van Ingen (1901) [Lectotype designated by Holloway (2021).]. Its type specimen is PU 57687a, a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.

Holloway 2021 | Cephalon distinctly effaced; axial furrow faint; occipital furrow apparently not defined medially; L1 and L2 almost lacking independent convexity and merging with median glabellar lobe, L3 not distinguishable. Anterior and lateral borders broad, weakly concave inside narrow, raised outer rim, with at least 17 pairs of border spines; lateral border curves strongly upwards posteriorly, vertical or even curving forwards slightly immediately below genal spine; lateral border furrow very shallow but containing a row of deeper pits. Eye not strongly raised on cheek, much lower than adjacent median part of glabella. Dorsal surface of cephalon and pygidium smooth apart from sparse, weak granules on genal field and pygidium, weak dimpling on genal field, and distally directed, spinose tubercles on genal spine. |
