Taxonomy
Illaenus roemeri was named by Murchison (1839) [Lectotype designated by Holloway (2021).]. Its type specimen is AMNH 42657 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Illaenus roemeri by Warburg (1925); it was recombined as Illaenus (Parillaenus) roemeri by Jaanusson (1954), Bruton and Owen (1988); it was recombined as Parillaenus roemeri by Suzuki and Bergström (1999); it was recombined as Bumastus barriensis by Murchison (1839), Holloway (2021).
