Taxonomy
Prototaxoxylon andrewsii was named by Agashe and Chitnis (1971). It is not extant. Its type locality is Kharkhari Colliery, Jharia Coalfield, which is in an Artinskian/Kungurian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in India.
It was recombined as Prototaxopitys andrewsii by Agashe (1977).
