Hyopsodus latidens was named by Denison (1937). Its type specimen is MCZ 9849, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Hyopsodus miticulus by Gazin (1968); it was considered a nomen dubium by Redline (1997).
