Ciurcopterus was named by Tetlie and Briggs (2009). It is not extant. Its type is Ciurcopterus ventricosus. It is the type genus of Ciurcopteridae.
It was assigned to Pterygotidae by Dunlop et al. (2020); and to Ciurcopteridae by Lamsdell (2025).
