Taxonomy
Tyrannophontes theridion was named by Schram (1969). It is not extant. Its type locality is Mazon Creek, Essex fauna, which is in a Moscovian deltaic mudstone/siderite in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois. It is the type species of Tyrannophontes.
